Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Elementary Families and Community Members,

Welcome. My name is Yvonne Munguia and I am truly excited to be the Principal at Marshall Elementary School. I am honored to be a part of the Marshall Mustang community where there are great teachers, staff members, wonderful students and supportive parents! Our school is filled with a diverse population of people who reflect a global community. I value the beauty, strength and resilience of our diverse community.

I was born and raised in San Diego, by a single mother who immigrated to this country from Mexico. I lived in many different communities including Encanto, Jamacha Lomita, and South Bay San Diego. I graduated from Southwest High School and attended UC Santa Barbara. After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Chicano/a Studies, I came back to San Diego in 1998 and began my journey as an educator through our district's Bilingual Education Credentialing Alternative Program (BECA). While in the classroom, I earned my Master’s Degree through National University and National Board Certification.  I come to you with 25 years of experience, teaching grades Kindergarten through fifth grade in biliteracy and dual language programs, serving as a Peer Coach/Staff Developer, In-school resource teacher, District English Learner Support Teacher and most recently as a Reading Support Teacher.

I am a bilingual, equity driven and reflective leader who believes that all children deserve an opportunity to grow into the best version of themselves. As we begin a new journey together, let’s embrace one another with love, hope, joy and commitment. Let’s continue to put the children at the center of all we do, knowing that we all want what is best for them and their future. I will count on your support to help us with our commitment to our students. They are the future of our community.

¡Sí Se Puede! Yes We Can!

Respectfully yours,

Yvonne Munguía

Principal, Marshall Elementary
